About
Dr. Lauren Kimmel is an experienced Optometrist specialising in family eye care, ocular disease, contact lenses, and the management of childhood myopia. She is qualified to prescribe ophthalmic medications for a variety of eye conditions. She has been practicing in the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie area since 2012 and is known for professional excellence and her warm and friendly manner.
Dr. Kimmel was educated in the U.S., graduating summa cum laude (with highest honours) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology at Arizona State University before going on to earn a Doctorate of Optometry at the University of Houston.
During her optometric education, Dr. Kimmel was awarded a prestigious National Eye Institute Research Fellowship, multiple Letters of Clinical Excellence, the Bausch & Lomb Prize for Cornea & Contact Lens Care, and membership in Beta Sigma Kappa, the International Optometric Honour Society. After arriving in Australia, she completed a post-graduate certificate in Ocular Therapeutics at the University of New South Wales. She has lectured on a variety of topics including managing high risk ocular medications, imaging technology in eye care, and myopia control.
Dr. Kimmel became a managing Director of Eyecare Plus Warners Bay in 2021.
In her free time, Lauren enjoys yoga, dance, and travel. She knows a good vintage t-shirt when she sees one, and loves a challenge. Since becoming one of the owners of Eyecare Plus at Warners Bay, she has developed a deep appreciation for spectacle frames- don’t ask how many pairs of glasses and sunnies she has, she’ll never tell! Although she misses the big open skies of her home state of Texas, Lauren feels lucky to call Australia home.
